Summary:
I have been a math teacher for 28 years. My math career started at a private school in South Africa where I taught high school math to Sotho students, one of the ethnic groups. This was a good experience that prepared me to work with different cultural groups. For 10 years, I taught high school math from grade 8 to 12. During that time, I was the subject head for grade 8 math. I also enjoyed coaching athletics and cross country outside the classroom.
I also taught at the American Creativity Academy in Kuwait for 7 years. Teaching in Kuwait taught me that no matter where you are in the world, all students have the same psychological and social needs. In Kuwait, I taught all levels of mathematics from pre-algebra, algebra 1, algebra 2, geometry, pre-calculus, and IB Math SL.
From 2015 to 2017, I taught middle school math for grade 7, 8, and 9 students at the Internationella Engelska Skolan in Stockholm and Halmstad, Sweden. During this time, I learned about the benefits and joys of co-teaching. The Swedish curriculum places a lot of emphasis on problem-solving in math from a very young age. In Sweden, I learned how to use hands-on activities as strategies to foster problem-solving skills.
From 2017 to 2018, I taught at The Carlsbad International School in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. I taught the IGCSE for Pre-DP students and IB Math SL 1 and 2.
Currently, I am teaching at The American School of Kuwait since 2019. I am teaching calculus, pre-calculus, and algebra 2.
I believe teaching in four different countries makes me a well-rounded teacher. I have learned a lot about different cultures. Teaching students from multiple nationalities has opened my eyes to how different cultural societies view math. Life as a teacher begins the day you realize that you are always a learner. Read less

I believe that students learn best when they work cooperatively. Therefore, in my class, I award students on a daily basis if they participate. Whenever we have to work on the Graphing Display Calculator, everyone in my class is alert and participating as they know they get awarded for finding the correct answer.
Students also remember the material the best when explaining it to each other. I do not shy away from inviting a student to the board to teach their fellow classmates. Read less
